I was born in Asheville, North Carolina and come from a strong southern Baptist family. My mom and dad moved to Michigan in the early 1950’s and settled in River Rouge (suburb) of Detroit. I attended school in River Rouge and graduated in 1966. I spent a few years in the car factories and joined the River Rouge Police Department in 1970.
