A Divine Smackdown

Sermon Scripture:  Luke 11:37-54 Sermon Big Idea:  The key is to clean the inside first by being persistent, united, enguard, a doer, repentant, and a light.  Then we will have the keys to open the gate and to not hinder others from entering. Jesus teaches us how to disciple: Be persistent in prayer (Luke 11:1-13) Be united (Luke 11:14-23) Be on watch (Luke 11:24-26) Be hearers and doers (Luke 11:27-28) Be repentant (Luke 11:29-32) Be lights (Luke 11:33-36) As we How COVID has affected us

Seeking Jesus?

Big Idea:  When looking for Jesus you may not find what you are looking for, but if you do find Him you will find exactly what you need. Wise men were seeking a miracle – Matthew 2:1-2 Andrew and Peter were seeking a Messiah – John 1:35-39; Acts 1:6 Followers of Jesus were seeking manna – John 6:26 What are you seeking? The wise men knew it was Him by a sign – Matthew 2:9 Peter and Andrew knew it How COVID has affected us

A Gift From the Host

Luke 19:1-10 Sermon Big Idea:  Truly inviting Jesus to our feast is to let him be the host. Short in stature, short in morals, but a tall stack of money had he. Zacchaeus couldn’t resist the desire to see Jesus. What identified Zacchaeus was replaced with Jesus. Jesus healed another blind man. Jesus became the host of Zacchaeus’ house by way of salvation.

The Sermon You Don’t Want to Hear

Don’t be a fool Luke 12:13-21 A fool… Doesn’t guard against covetousness (v. 15a) Bases his/her value on how much he/she has (v. 15b) Lays up treasure for himself/herself (v. 21) How to avoid being a fool… Purpose (Matthew 6:18-21) Perspective (Matthew 25:14,21) Plan (Luke 14:28) If we “seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness,” he will meet our needs and we will be who God uses to meet others needs. (Acts 2:45)

From Birth to Life

The virgin birth further blinds those who already can’t see. Jesus’ life and ministry isn’t disputed, his identity is. Jesus’ death isn’t disputed, the effect is. The victory of the cross was the resurrection of the Christ.   Jesus’ resurrection is disputed, but the effect isn’t.

You can’t hide and heal at the same time. Name Change = Simon meaning reed to Peter meaning rock Jesus wants to overcome our fear with faith Many times, our failures want to displace our faith Jesus shows up to offer forgiveness after failure Peter learned that faith would allow for him to overcome his fear and failures so that he could experience freedom What is a part of your 10% that you hold back from God? A Party for the Paramedic

Matthew 5; Luke 15, 18, 19 they were not to be people you associated with Jesus broke the quarantine tape and Matthew responded At Matthew’s invitation, Jesus walked into a contagious situation As Matthew hosted, Jesus sat comfortably with infectious people How to evangelize in contagious situations: Go in prayer – Luke 10 Go in twos – Luke 10 Go in love – How COVID has affected us

(im)Perfect?

Jesus had an (im)perfect family tree – Matthew 1:1-16 Jesus had an (im)perfect earthly beginning – Luke 1:26-35; Matthew 2:16 Jesus invites imperfect people to join His family tree and become perfect as he is perfect – 1 Timothy 2:1-4; John 1:12; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 And that’s why I choose Him as my King!
